I'm a 36-year-old journalist living about a second outside of Detroit. I have a love-hate relationship with my city. Detroit is a LOT like that fucked up friend of yours nobody else can stand.You really, truly want good things for this person, you believe they deserve better, but when it comes time to stepping up and making a good/smart decision, they never seem to do it. I love Detroit and I'll defend it with a certain rabidity, but I also recognize that it does need a series of dick slaps.

Detroit, baseball, napping, chicken, burritos, camping, northern Michigan, travel, semi-adventurous cooking, long-ass walks, tattoos, Adidas, American Indian culture, writing, reading, old/cool cars, entry level/do it yourself home improvement stuff (although, despite my best efforts, I'm still not very good at it), quality time, San Francisco, bicycles, photography.

Thanks to Dirty Jase, Grey Daturas, Boris, Bottles and Skulls, Pleasure Forever, Hot Snakes, some Ethiopian piano music, rare Minutemen live shows from, like forever ago, Hank III, Chains and Black Exhaust. I also enjoy some Detroit bands like The Grande Nationals, The Sights and The Hellbenders. But for the most part, I like and listen to the following: a certain amount of hip-hop, but I'm super picky about it, most of the new stuff sucks and the people making it, KNOW IT! But I'm definitely down for Mos Def, Jay-Z, the Beastie Boys, Cypress HIll, Kool Keith, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, Guru, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, Eric B. and Rakim, RUN-DMC, EPMD, some Biggie, Tribe Called Quest. Others in rotation include The Clash, The Misfits, other "classic punk, " The Ramones, The Replacements, DEVO, Slayer, Louis Jordan, AC/DC, Buena Vista Social Club, Pearl Jam, Benny Goodman, Motorhead, The Crew Cuts, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, The Hives, Weezer, Minor Threat, Sex Pistols, White Zombie, Psycho Realm, Moistboyz, some Foo Fighters, and a bunch of other bands I can't quite think of right now

Anything by Jim Harrison. "Where White Men Fear To Tread" by Russell Means really had an impact on me. I dig Dave Eggers, just finished "How We Are Hungry, " and I'm currently down for the McSweeneys quarterlies. I know there HAS to be snotty and pretentious shitheadspeople who use this section to list shit like Kierkegaard, or Nietzsche. I didn't major in philosophy and I read for entertainment. If I want a lesson I'll take a fucking class.
